At what age should my child undergo an orthodontic evaluation?

The age a child should first undergo an orthodontic evaluation really depends more on their oral development than it does an actual age. A good time for an evaluation typically comes shortly after a child develops their front permanent teeth or if there appears to be crowding among a child’s teeth. Additionally, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that kids between the ages of 7 to 9 should receive an orthodontic evaluation.

What are the benefits of kids getting braces?

Orthodontic treatment offers a number of long-term benefits. When teeth form crooked, crowded, or misaligned, they become far more difficult to properly clean. When kids cannot fully brush or floss between their teeth it allows harmful oral bacteria to buildup, which significantly increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Kids can also feel very self-conscious about a crooked or uneven smile, feelings that can easily carry on well into adulthood. Undergoing orthodontic treatment with Dr. Carr can correct or prevent these types and other issues that can negatively impact the health and how kids view the state of their smiles.

Do you offer braces for adults?

Absolutely! Dr. Carr believes that patients of all ages can benefit from undergoing orthodontic treatment. For our adult patients who want to complete their treatment discreetly, Dr. Carr offers both ceramic braces and Invisalign options. Dr. Carr believes you’re never too old to receive the great looking smile you deserve, and will happily meet the needs of his adult patients during the completion of their treatment plans.

How long does it take to complete orthodontic treatment?

How long a patient will need to wear braces really depends on a variety of factors, including age, severity of the problems being corrected, and the type of braces the patient wears. While we cannot give you an exact date on how long a patient will need to wear their braces, Dr. Carr guarantees to provide the type of outstanding care and service needed for patients to complete their treatment as quickly as possible.
